Born and raised in Edison, New Jersey, Dr. Roheena Malik has spent her life pouring back into her community. Her lifelong advocacy for closing gaps in healthcare access led her to The Richard J. Favreau, OD Health Foundation’s mission of promoting eye health, contributing to a healthier and more vibrant New Jersey. Roheena’s dedication to eye health extends beyond her current role. She collaborates with community-based organizations, healthcare providers, government agencies, and philanthropic foundations. Together, they support and maintain the eye health of low-income, uninsured, seniors, and minority communities who are disproportionately affected by vision-related issues and lack access to eye-care services. Roheena is focusing on creating initiatives to provide comprehensive eye exams and spectacle coverage for children, recognizing the critical role of vision care in academic success. Her experience as an optometrist and her passion for public health have positioned her to drive transformative change at the policy level through her advocacy efforts, offering a promising future for public health, Roheena is deeply committed to using her opportunity as a GHC fellow to enhance her practical leadership skills, including public speaking and communication. Roheena is eager to join a community of young public health professionals who, like her, are driven by a shared passion for advancing health equity, fostering a sense of camaraderie, and working towards a shared purpose.
