Community is important to me because it gives me the foundations for the learning opportunities and daily support that help me to be the best I can be.

Sarah is a native of the South Side of Chicago. She completed her undergraduate studies at Boston University, where she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. During college, she spent a semester in Niamey, Niger studying international development, culture, and local arts - including an apprenticeship with a master wood artisan at the national museum. After graduating, she spent a year in New Delhi, India working on tuberculosis prevention and care in urban slums. In 2013, Sarah earned her Master of Public Administration in development practice from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. During her graduate studies, she worked with the Earth Institute to implement and manage a TB biometric medical record system in Southwestern Uganda. Since completing her graduate studies, Sarah has consulted with UNICEF on nutrition and infectious disease strategies in Southern Africa and the evaluation of a DFID-funded Girl’s Education Challenge project in Northern Ghana. Sarah loves the Chicago Bulls, exploring the outdoors and markets, and trying new foods.
