Born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and currently residing in Chicago, Illinois, Shane J. Lee is an environmental justice professional working to transform sustainability by maximizing environmental justice impact through climate philanthropy. As Program Coordinator at Sustain Our Future Foundation (SOFF), Shane provides community health recommendations for clean energy projects, is a grant writer for federal and state environmental grants, and identifies grassroots environmental organizations that can best leverage climate crisis funding dollars. At SOFF, he is also proud to represent the foundation on the Resilient Community, Maryland Initiative Advisory Board, where he will create community-based energy resilience frameworks for Maryland community members. Additionally, Shane is a public voices fellow with the OpEd Project in partnership with the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication and was a Gilman Scholar in South Africa where he investigated racist load-shedding energy practices that harm Black South Africans. Shane is passionate about the intersection between environmental justice, community health, and the climate crisis, and is eager to join GHC to better create positive health outcomes for historically excluded community members.
