Author: Tamanda Nazimera

From Lilongwe, Malawi, Tamanda Nazimera encourages change by promoting health initiatives in her role as a Surveillance and Supplementary Immunization Activities Officer at the World Health Organization. In this capacity, she has refined immunization initiatives by strengthening communication, partnerships, and technical expertise, significantly advancing routine immunization and disease surveillance efforts. Her work involved fostering strong collaborations, maximizing vaccine transportation, and upholding an efficient supply chain. By facilitating cross-border collaborations for complex disease surveillance, she achieved favorable results. Additionally, her daily field visits addressed immunization gaps and enhanced system effectiveness. Tamanda also took the initiative to build the capacity of health workers through training sessions during mass vaccination campaigns and new vaccine distribution. Her contributions included supporting Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) survivors, examining epidemic response operations, conducting routine surveillance, and mentoring healthcare workers. Her meticulous management of EPI data ensured accuracy and high quality, unifying data reviews to maintain consistent reporting of epidemiological trends. Overall, her efforts have led to efficient immunization programs and strategic decision-making in public health. Throughout the GHC fellowship, Tamanda aims to nurture exceptional leadership and team-building skills to inspire and empower others. She is excited to gain innovative approaches to maintaining vital partnerships and fostering results-oriented teams, equipping her to facilitate meaningful change in her community. This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to enhance her capabilities and transform her into an influential leader, ready to tackle critical challenges with confidence and creativity.
