Thandiwe is from Lusaka, Zambia. Her love of science and desire to make a positive difference in people’s lives naturally led her to pursue a degree in the biological sciences at the University of Zambia, where she majored in Microbiology. Following graduation, Thandiwe remained engaged with her university, serving as a tutor for the biological sciences department, and also taught a parasitology class at Evelyn Hone College. Thandiwe returned to school to obtain her MPH while subsequently interning at the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. In her spare time, Thandiwe volunteers her time with a local youth literacy program called Read to Spell, an organization that she founded with the goal to improve literacy among children attending community schools in Lusaka. Thandiwe also enjoys cooking and gardening.
