Dr. Peter Piot

Dr. Piot is the former Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, and he is now the Director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, a Handa Professor of Global Health, and has been appointed to the European Commission’s advisory panel on COVID-19. Previously, Dr. Pilot was Under Secretary-General of the United Nations and Associate Director of the Global Programme on AIDS of WHO. Under his leadership at UNAIDS, the organization became the chief advocate for worldwide action against AIDS. He is the first Chair to lead Her Majesty’s Government’s Strategic Coherence of ODA-funded Research Board, Vice-Chair of the board of the Global Health Innovative Technology Fund in Tokyo, Vice-Chair of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations board, Chair of the Global Burden of Disease Independent Advisory Committee, and Chair of the King Baudouin Foundation US. 

Dr. Piot is a Belgian microbiologist and is most known for his research into Ebola and AIDS. He has authored 16 books and over 600 scientific articles.
