Emmanuel Lesa

Research Capacity Building Officer

National Health Research Authority

Emmanuel Lesa works as a Research Capacity Building Officer at the National Health Research Authority in Lusaka, Zambia, where he partners with health professionals and policymakers across the country to ensure that public health priorities and evidence meaningfully inform research and policy. His work bridges national strategies with the realities experienced in diverse communities, advancing more inclusive and effective health systems.

Outside of his current role, Emmanuel is proud of completing his Master of Public Health dissertation at the University of Lusaka, where he examined the perceptions and impact of intimate partner violence (IPV) towards men—research that challenged prevailing narratives and highlighted an overlooked dimension of gender-based violence. Earlier this year, he was honored with the “Most Committed to Duty” award at his workplace, recognition that underscored the values of consistency, collaboration, and dedication that shape his personal and professional approach.

At the National Health Research Authority, Emmanuel has been instrumental in institutionalizing the Health Research Capacity Building Program, facilitating training for Ministry of Health staff nationwide on developing knowledge translation products such as policy briefs, reports, and abstracts. He also co-leads a national Training-of-Trainers program on sex- and gender-responsive research and knowledge translation, convening researchers, academics, and policy actors to integrate gender considerations into research and policy communication.

Emmanuel is deeply committed to advancing health equity in Zambia by ensuring that evidence and policy reflect the needs of all communities, especially those historically underserved. As he shares, “Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It’s about impact, influence, and inspiration.” –Robin S. Sharma
