Sapphira Nahabwe Wamala

Communications, PR, and Resource Mobilization Consultant

Centre For Women's Justice Uganda (CWJU)

Sapphira Nahabwe Wamala serves underserved communities—particularly women, girls, and key populations—by amplifying their voices, connecting them to essential resources, and mobilizing support for their needs. Her work places her alongside refugee women, adolescent girls, survivors of S-GBV, and other marginalized groups, allowing her to design solutions that respond to their lived experiences.

Outside of her current role, Sapphira led advocacy and communications initiatives at the International Community of Women Living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA), elevating women’s voices and influencing policies on SRHR and gender justice. She also honed her journalism skills at New Vision, producing investigative and human-interest stories that shaped public debate and highlighted the realities of vulnerable communities.

In her current role at CWJU, Sapphira is proud of spearheading the national sanitary pad dispenser initiative, expanding menstrual health access for schoolgirls across Uganda. She also led Uganda’s first Joint Activism Carnival, bringing together hundreds of partners to raise visibility for women’s rights and gender justice. Both initiatives demonstrate the power of strategic communications and coalition-building to create tangible community impact.

Sapphira is committed to ensuring that underserved women, girls, and key populations are not left behind, dedicating her work to amplifying their voices, dismantling systemic barriers, and creating pathways for equal access to health, dignity, and opportunity. She is inspired by the African proverb, “I am because we are, and since we are, therefore I am,” which reminds her that individual impact is inseparable from collective progress.
