Tasha Mwila

Program Coordinator

AVAC

Tasha Mwila works closely with young Zambian women vulnerable to HIV, ensuring their voices shape prevention and care programs. Her approach is built on trust, shared experiences, and ongoing engagement, allowing her to advocate for the community while empowering them to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.

Outside of her current role, Tasha is proud of her work with the Network of Zambian People Living with HIV/AIDS (NZP+), where she focused on advocacy and community engagement to support the introduction of new HIV prevention options, including the Dapivirine Vaginal Ring and injectable PrEP. She also volunteered with CHAI’s HIV Testing Services Community Advisory Board, bringing community feedback to guide programs and improve services for adolescents and young people. These experiences reinforced her belief in the power of advocacy and community-led change.

In her current role at AVAC, which serves as the secretariat for the Dual Prevention Pill (DPP) Consortium, Tasha helps lead the Civil Society Advisory Group (CS AG). She is particularly proud of supporting members as they implement awareness projects, engage stakeholders, and create safe spaces for dialogue in schools, churches, and sports settings. This work strengthens civil society leadership, amplifies young women’s voices, and ensures communities are central to the introduction of new prevention tools.

Tasha is deeply committed to health equity, believing that every young woman deserves the knowledge, tools, and support to make empowered choices. She draws inspiration from Nelson Mandela’s words: “It always seems impossible until it’s done,” a reminder that meaningful change is possible when driven by dedication and community engagement.
