Technical Advisor

GIZ

Wongani Nyasulu supports community responses and systems strengthening through her work with BACKUP Health, providing technical assistance to communities and civil society organizations to amplify their voices and promote meaningful engagement in Global Fund processes. She works closely with populations affected by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, including adolescent girls and young women, people living with HIV, key populations, religious communities, and academia.

Outside of her current role, Wongani served as a Youth Health Budget Advocate with USAID’s Health Policy Plus, advocating for youth inclusion in health service policies in Blantyre and raising awareness about access to Youth Friendly Health Services. She also coordinated mentorship sessions for girls in secondary school through Little Big Prints in Zomba, guiding 35+ girls on gender, leadership, public speaking, and sexual and reproductive health.

In her current position, Wongani is proud of facilitating civil society and community participation in the Global Fund Grant cycle, including developing an engagement framework and strengthening CSO capacity. She also led the implementation of a Community Led Monitoring initiative in two health facilities in Ntcheu, empowering 46 volunteers to routinely monitor service provision and advocate for improvements in HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and health systems strengthening.

Wongani is committed to health equity, striving to ensure every individual has access to quality health services and opportunities to thrive, regardless of background, socioeconomic status, or location. She draws inspiration from Aristotle’s words: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit,” guiding her dedication to consistent, high-impact leadership in health.
