Role Overview

The ICT Unit aims to provide continuous and supported ICT infrastructure, deliver reliable ICT support, foster innovations, build partnerships and provide efficient ICT services and solutions to end-users in a timely, secure and safe manner to strengthen programme and operational effectiveness and efficiency. 

Based on the established policies, guidelines and service level agreements (SLAs), the purpose of the ICT Officer’s role is to carry out broad ICT functions that enable the provision of ICT solutions and services and assist in delivering results in Amref Malawi Country Offices

Responsibilities

Information and Communication Technology

  • Manage computer set-up for AMREF Malawi and its field offices;
  • Oversee hardware and software developments for AMREF Malawi;
  • Administer all the organizational networks situated in different locations;
  • Carry out regular backups and ensure an end-month backup is available for safekeeping;
  • Instigate and follow through a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance programme;
  • Support purchase, installation and operations of all telecommunications equipment;
  • Act as custodian of all IT equipment and software licenses;
  • Support implementation of corporate IT standards and policies;
  • Take the lead in network planning, design, development, deployment and modification;
  • Regularly monitor internet usage and make any necessary recommendations;
  • Maintain system security by ensuring that security standards are upheld.
  • Monitor and keep control of the annual financial budget for the ICT Department and review the monthly budget statements with the Finance Manager.

Project support

  • Provide comprehensive and effective IT help desk services to all staff members;
  • Build IT capacity for all staff and specifically for field-based key IT support teams;
  • Create, implement and keep under review a disaster-recovery plan for AMREF Malawi’s computing and data needs, including regular back-ups of essential data;
  • Monitor the operation and integrity of the ICT hardware and software and arrange for necessary actions to improve the process;
  • Support opportunities to improve productively, efficiency, effectiveness and foster innovation. 
  • Provide technical and operational support to end-users
  • Offer or coordinate training workshops or clinics to build end-user’s capacity or to introduce new solutions and services 

Skills and Experience

Items indicated with an asterisk (*) are required
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Business Computing, and Computer Science plus training in Network Management, leading to MCSA or MCSE Certification.*
  • Demonstrated experience using webinars and e-learning software for virtual engagement and training, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.*
  • Experience with software and Hardware.*
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Dynamics Navision (ERP).* 
  • Experience in LAN/WAN and WLAN operations is required*
  • At least one year of professional experience in Information and Communication Technology
  • ICT Project Management, Business Analytics, Information Security, ICT Audit and Risk Management, Telecommunications, Networks Information Security, Software Engineering, and Programming. 
  • Experience with the O365 suite and Communication and Training skills;
  • Server administration experience. 
  • Proven experience in end users’ training (content development, planning and delivery)
  • The ability to think outside the box and come up with innovative solutions to problems
  • ICT is a rapidly evolving field, so being able to adapt to new technologies and tools is crucial
  • Small errors can lead to big problems in ICT. Having an eye for detail is important for quality assurance.
  • Effective communication is vital, whether you are working with technical or non-technical team members and stakeholders
  • Stay abreast of ICT trends, developments, and best practices through professional development –journals, training, certification 
  • Interpersonal skills and trustworthy

About the Organization

Amref Health Africa in Malawi was established in 2012. The Malawi office is part of Amref Health Africa International, based in 1957 as the Flying Doctors, with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.  Amref’s initial work in Malawi included working with and treating women of reproductive age with vesicovaginal fistulae and other projects related to eradicating child marriages and trachoma. Currently, Amref Health Africa in Malawi is implementing several projects in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR); reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH); and advocacy in 9 districts.
