Role Overview

The Research and Learning Fellow will help the Malawi Cervical Cancer Program at RHD to remain abreast of current research and evidence based practices on cervical cancer, including HPV self-testing and HPV vaccination.The Fellow will conduct public health research and evidence synthesis (including literature reviews), disseminate research findings, and contribute to proposal development. The Fellow will drive evidence-based programming by maintaining a database of current practices in the field as well as monitoring internal program trends. The Fellow will coordinate knowledge sharing across CECAP implementing partners and stakeholders and will work closely with the CECAP Secretariat team to inform CECAP program management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct frequent literature reviews on health-related topics
  • Synthesize and disseminate research findings 
  • Maintain endnote library or similar database of research related to Cervical Cancer and other related SRHR  programs implementation.
  • Support capacity building among the team on research related topics including abstract writing, poster creation, and presentations
  • Participate in proposal development 
  • Identify potential topics for abstracts 
  • Support analysis of program interventions and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects
  • Coordinate knowledge sharing across departments, partners and stakeholders using current research in the field.
  • Utilize program data to systematically inform programming and decision-making.

Skills and Experience

Items indicated with an asterisk (*) are required
 
  • Either Bsc in Mathematics (Biostatistics), Bachelor of Social Science (Economics) or Bsc in Agricultural Economics*
  • At least two years of professional experience in research, including literature reviews.*
  • Experience writing about scientific subjects, as evidenced by producing technical reports, abstracts, research papers, or other related materials.*
  • Experience working with a database or reference library software, such as Endnote.*
  • At least 2 publications in reputable health related journals.*
  • Msc in Epidemiology and Biostatistics
  • Experience in quantitative or qualitative data analysis, using a statistical package such as CS PRO, SAS, R, SPSS, STATA, or JMP  
  • Experience writing research grant proposals 
  • Authorship or co-authorship on a scientific paper
  • Experience with integrated Cervical Cancer-HIV/AIDS programming and/or research.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Passion for evidence-driven programming 
  • Experience in capacity building and mentorship

The Ministry of Health is a not-for- profit organization working in partnership with several implementing and development partners across several disease programs within the health sector. The Mission of the Cervical Cancer program in the Ministry of health, is to reduce incidence and mortality from cervical cancer through coordinated national response and increased access to comprehensive cervical cancer prevention and control services in Malawi. To achieve this, we are working with various organizations, both implementing and development partners, to support scale up cervical cancer services, while ensuring evidence-based and data driven programming.
