Title: Advocacy and Communications Officer
I am motivated by the understanding that small, incremental changes can lead to large transformations. Meaning that honest persistence and dedication can eventually succeed even in the most challenging situations.

Heather hails from western Maine. Prior to joining GHC, Heather served as an AmeriCorps VISTA member in Maine fighting local food insecurity, founded an English Language Learners program at an adult education center, and coached a high school Nordic ski team. Most recently, Heather served as the Cumberland County Field Director for the Maine Democratic Party. She spent the past five years working on social justice issues related to health, literacy, and women's empowerment. From 2010 to 2012 Heather lived in India, where she worked to support program development and monitoring for various NGOs serving marginalized populations. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of New Hampshire in history and religion where she focused on the historical impact of natural disasters and wrote her thesis on AIDS in Uganda. She spent one semester at the University of Otago, in New Zealand, studying the effects of colonialism on the Maori culture. Heather also competed on UNH's Division I Nordic Ski Team. Heather loves to be an active part of her community and spending time outdoors.
