In community, we remind each other that we are not alone, no matter what we're going through. In community, we are strong and unstoppable, able to do more together than alone. It reminds me of the Southern African concept of "ubuntu" in which Archbishop Desmond Tutu describes it as, "My humanity is caught up, bound up, inextricably, with yours."

Melissa is from Flourtown, Pennsylvania. She worked as an HIV research assistant at Johns Hopkins University, where she also pursued a Master of Public Health. Melissa graduated cum laude from Towson University with a bachelor's degree in family studies & community development. While at Towson, she swam for four years as a Division I scholar athlete. She writes freelance about gender, social justice, and spirituality. Melissa is a triathlete and dedicates her races to advocating for women's inclusion in the Tour de France.
